Jeff Yu, Managing Director, The Angels' Forum Jeffrey Yu recently joined The Angels’ Forum as Managing Director. He has spent the last 10 years working with and investing in early stage companies such as Avici Systems, Dust Networks, Fultec Semiconductors, Paxera Corp., and Zolo Technologies. Prior to joining The Angels’ Forum, Jeff was a Principal at Crescendo Ventures from 2000 to 2007 where he focused on investments in enabling technologies such as semiconductors, optical systems and networking solutions.
From 1990 – 2000, he held various responsibilities at Nortel Networks including R&D, new product introduction, network planning, product management and business development. Before his work at Nortel Networks, Jeff developed ultrasonic techniques for testing materials at the Industrial Materials Institute of Canada; and prior to that worked as a software engineer for CAE Electronics. Jeff holds both a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University.
Fred Greguras, Partner, K&L Gates Fred M. Greguras is a partner in the Palo Alto office of K&L Gates who focuses his practice on strategic issues for global software, internet, media and life sciences companies - with an emphasis on the start-up and emerging company stages. This includes, in particular, financings of various types, M&A and a full range of other transactions in both domestic and international marketplaces. In the international arena, Mr. Greguras has substantial experience representing companies with a market focus on or operations in China and India, and in supporting investors from those countries. During his 25-plus year tenure in the Silicon Valley, Mr. Greguras has also been a venture capitalist and a general counsel and CFO for a startup. He received a BA in mathematics from University of Omaha in 1966, a MS in mathematics and computer science in 1968, and his J.D. in 1975 from the University of Nebraska. Mr. Greguras is a member of the State Bar of California.
Cuneyt Özveren, Ph. D., Chairman, CEO and Founder, LeapTag/Angel Investor. Dr. Özveren a serial entrepreneur also founded Atoga Systems, a venture- backed startup that developed DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) equipment. Atoga Systems was acquired by Arris International in 2003. Cuneyt also co-founded Berkeley Networks, which was later acquired by Fore Systems. He holds five degrees from MIT, including a doctorate in electrical engineering and computer science, and an MBA. He is also the author of numerous published papers and holds nine patents. Cuneyt is a frequent speaker at leading industry events nationwide.
John Matthesen is a serial entrepreneur, with over 25 years of global operations and sales experience in the US, Europe and Asia. He recently served as interim COO at Revcube, an internet advertising-platform company. He was previously CEO at ByteBlaze, an anti-piracy software company, COO at a biotech software company, and is currently on the Advisory Board of numerous high-tech companies. He is a consultant with Enthiosys, specializing in qualitative market research and software licensing practices. In addition, he is a Venture Partner at WI Harper in San Francisco, and a member of the Keiretsu Angel Forum, where he chairs the Cool Stuff committee (consumer products). Mr. Matthesen was part of the startup teams at Sybase and Commerce One. He held numerous positions at both companies, including Vice President / CIO, Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific region and other executive management roles in Professional Services, Marketing, and Engineering. Since then, he has invested in and held executive positions in two biotech companies, a shipping container company, and several consumer products companies. John holds a B.S. in biopsychology and linguistics from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has studied Telecommunications Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley (where he is currently studying Mandarin). He has also served as an adjunct professor of e-commerce at Carnegie-Mellon University West Coast campus.
David Gravano is a partner at Western Technology Investment (WTI). Mr. Gravano joined WTI in early 2008 as an Investment Partner. He has more than 19 years of financial services experience, 12 of which have been spent providing debt solutions to early stage technology companies domestically and abroad. Before joining WTI, Mr. Gravano held senior positions at Silicon Valley Bank, Fortress Investment Group, and Meier Mitchell/GATX Ventures. In addition, David managed GATX’s London-based venture lending business, GATX/ETV, which experienced a three-fold increase in assets under management under his leadership. Mr. Gravano has a BA from Duke University.
