Introduction by:

Damon C. Matteo, Vice President, Intellectual Management, PARC

Damon Matteo directs all aspects of PARC operations that touch
intellectual capital. With a two-decade career in international intellectual
capital management (ICM) and commercialization, Matteo has acquired
extensive experience managing the full-spectrum of corporate intellectual
capital assets — from optimizing their creation and capture, to extracting
maximum value from them through vehicles such as licensing,
assertion, and spin-outs. Matteo's operational experience includes
establishing ICM functions, along with the enabling strategic, human
capital, policy/process, and analytic capabilities.

Prior to joining PARC in 2003, Matteo created and managed Hewlett-
Packard's licensing organization, where he directed intellectual property
licensing for the entire corporation. He also lived and worked for several
years in Asia and Europe. Matteo has successfully completed
transactions representing various organizations — ranging from Fortune
500 companies and start-ups, to national laboratories and universities —
in the United States, Asia, and Europe. Besides their strategic benefits, a
number of these transactions were valued at over $100 million.

Matteo has received numerous professional awards and recognition,
including: one of the "Fifty Most Influential People in Intellectual Property"
(Managing Intellectual Property magazine); the National Technology
Transfer Excellence Award (given by the U.S. Federal Government); the
R&D 100 Award (R&D magazine); and Senior Distinguished Fellow with
the Center for Advanced Technology. Matteo also serves on the Board of
Directors for the European Center for Intellectual Property Studies, and
was selected principal industry expert in intellectual capital for both the U.
S. Security & Exchange Commission (SEC) and the United Nations.

Dedicated to advancing the theory and best practice of ICM, Matteo
frequently lectures at national and international universities and
professional organizations. He has also served as an expert witness on
ICM-related matters for legal proceedings.
